Action Fist! He stole from you. No one steals from you.

From the creator of Uberleben comes another great gem. Clearly inspired by old classics, Action Fist! is both familiar and new. You’ll find yourself comfortable with the controls in a snap, like in old arcades. It’s all gunfire and mayhem from this point on!

Action Fist! is a co-op, and I highly recommend playing it like that.

The power up system is also a fun feature. You have both straight power ups like multi shot or rapid fire, sure. Now, in a world color coded for your convenience, picking up a color for your gun helps you deal extra damage to enemies of the same color. As you can only have two different weapons and there are three colors, you can see why a partner to provide that extra color can save you.

On difficulty, there are a lot of options. I’m sure one will suit your needs.

Last note, but an important one. There’s a level with rain in the background. It caused a fair share of lag in my computer. Don’t worry though, it’s only one level. You should be able to play through it.

Give adventure a try! And if you are looking for a setting to play BADASS, look no further!

Momodora 1 & 2

Today, I offer you a 2 x 1 deal: Momodora. Here, you take control of a distressed heroine, braving the dangers of an ancient and evil temple to bring her mother back after she was taken for a human sacrifice.

Both games are shooter plataformers, with twisted passageways and a plethora of colorful enemies. While the first one takes a more “linear” approach to level design (with a few detours for secrets), the second one has a Metroidvania-like structure (non-linear level progression and lots of backtracking to newly accessible areas).

Both games are really enjoyable and I recommend both of them. Now, you may want to go directly to the download links, because the next paragraph is my personal opinion. If you feel like reading it, go ahead:

Even though the second game improves on a lot of things from the first, I can’t help but feel it doesn’t go in the same direction as its predecessor. I’ll talk more about this in my next Babble, all I want to say here is this: I found the first game to be a lot better than the second one. If you are like me, Momodora 2 will disappoint a bit when compared to Momodora 1. It’s still worth playing, though.

Cave Story (Doukutsu Monogatari)

This little Shooter/Plataformer/RPG is a real gem. Cave Story is a complete and interesting game, with both challenging levels and a good story full of characters. And to top it all, the controls are simple, the graphics are nice and it’s chock full of secrets to unlock.

One great detail is how, even though you get a lot of different weapons through the game (and can unlock more), you never really “outgrow” them. Not because the game forces you to use each and every one of them, but because each one has its advantages and disadvantages, so, taking into account both the level layout and the enemy’s movement pattern, all the guns you get see some use.

As I may have said before, Cave Story caters both to casual and hardcore players. You may play the story once and that’s all, or you can go at it a few times to unlock all the secrets, make all the possible decisions and get all the endings. Go check it out!

Wild Hunters, Saru the Monkey’s Epic Adventure

You know what? Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned plataformer? Wild Hunters takes us all into a Shōnen-quality adventure through some colorful and quite challenging levels.

The game is full of quirky bosses, weird power-ups and some really interesting game mechanics. Even if you don’t play it for the game itself OR the story (both worth it), you should see it as inspiration for your own game ideas.

Here in Wild Hunters you have an amazingly done game, one that doesn’t shy away from combining plataformers, combo attacks, some RPG elements and some unique ideas.

Tower of Heaven, Blasphemous Ascension

Keeping with the divine theme from last week, for today I have Tower of Heaven, a puzzle plataformer with a few unique twists. You'll guide your character in his/her ascension towards the top of the Tower, while avoiding the wrath of a deity.

The graphics are simple, with a Game Boy-like feel. The game is short, but death is easy, so it will keep you entertained for a few hours. And if you are up for the challenge, there are a few secrets to unlock. Be warned though, it's not easy.

You may like the setting or not (even though the game is not exactly "deep", it seems to make fun of the arbitrary way of some religious rules, for example), I'm not going to defend it.

Tower of Heaven is here because of the way it deals with challenges. It's really interesting to see how the game develops, mechanically speaking, adding a lot of obstacles but not changing the scenery much. It's weird, You'll understand when you play it.

Backworld, a tale of two worlds

This little puzzle-plataformer here is a rather inspired one. Backworld takes us to a black and white environment that's made up of two slightly different worlds: the "front" one, the one we easily see; and a "back" world, accessible by painting with the mouse. Some elements exist only in one or the other, while others (like our character) exist in both.

The dual reality mechanic is really exploited to it' fullest, making each level a completely different experience to the one before. If you haven't played it, what are you waiting to download it?

Review #09 – Free Video Game

ACTION TURNIP!!!

Another week, another fast-paced shooter. Last week I brought HyperPrincess Peach, and today it’s ACTION TURNIP!!! This little browser game has it all: jumps, bullets, lots of enemies and enough nonsense to take you to Wonderland and back.

It’s always nice to sit in front of the screen and know instinctively what to do. The controls are simple, as is the prime directive: Run and Shoot. Don’t die.

Your score is based on how long you can stay alive.

Before I leave, one last thought: How do the power-ups work? I don’t have the slightest idea. I you find out, feel free to enlighten the rest of us.

This post is about "This Game is Wizard"

What's this puzzle plataformer about? Oh, right. This Game is Wizard is a weird little game that I found a while ago. It doesn't have fancy graphics or innovative game mechanics; it's just a simple, fun and addictive game.

In it you guide a wizard through a series of short levels and try to get as many trophies as possible while doing it. There are enemies, there are spells, and there's a hell lot of jumping.

As I always try to do, I offer you a game that can be played casually and burn a few hours, or where you can put your hardcore hat on and try to get each and every trophy (with a side of perfect score).

There's not much to say about it. It's a solid game, fun and simple. Download and enjoy.

Spelunky, Explore the depths of The Ancient Earth

Spelunky is a plataformer with randomly generated levels and a lot, and I really mean a lot of characters and objects for Indy to interact with. I would explain a few of them but I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just shut up.

Now, a fair warning, this game is NOT easy. It might take a while to get past the first area, and you will die a LOT. Some reviews compare it to Rogue-like levels of “deathness”. Not that it matters, though, as it’s impossible to get through each and every feature in just a few games. I mean, it took me like 50 replays to get the dark level once.

It’s really a nice alternative if you like plataformers but hate to play the same jumps again and again. The game is so well thought that I haven’t encountered a single dead end where there shouldn’t be one. The first levels can be resolved with minimum use of ropes and bombs, just remember to save a few for the latter levels where they’ll be vital.

So there you have it, a real exploration game with a new cavern each time and enough secrets to keep you playing for a long, long time. Enjoy Indy’s adventure!
